SLOW PLAY HAPPENS!
Let’s Make the Best of it.
Slow play happens. And even for the most patient golfer, waiting on the group ahead can be frustrating. Golfers like rhythm and routine. So when you’re standing on a tee box or waiting in the fairway, it’s easy to start focusing less on your own group and more on the one ahead.
How many practice swings do they need? Are they really lining up that third putt? Was that another mulligan?
It’s okay to be frustrated. You probably can’t change the pace of play from where you’re standing. You can choose what you do with the time you’re given. That’s the idea behind the You’re Good By Me Slow Play Initiative: Turn a frustrating pause into an opportunity for connection.
Make the wait matter.
A round of golf gives us something increasingly rare: uninterrupted time with other people.
The next time you’re waiting on the tee box, use a few of those minutes to connect with the people around you. Check in with a friend. Ask a question you don’t normally ask. Share something about yourself. Laugh about the round you’re playing or talk about what’s happening beyond the course.
Everyone has mental health. And while talking about how we’re really doing isn’t always easy, small moments of genuine connection can help make those conversations feel more normal–and remind the people around us that they don’t have to navigate life’s hard moments alone.
Five questions. One simple idea.
The You’re Good By Me Slow Play Initiative offers five simple, low pressure conversation starters golfers can use while they wait. Use them exactly as written, put them in your own words, or simply use them as inspiration to start a conversation.
Because sometimes the best thing you can do while waiting to hit your next shot is connect with the person standing next to you.
Bring slow play to your golf community.
You’re Good By Me provides free Slow Play Initiative media kits for golf courses, retailers, manufacturers, practice and simulator facilities, and others who engage with the golf community.
Kits include digital and print materials, the five Slow Play Initiative conversation starters, mental health and suicide prevention education, and information connecting people with immediate crisis support.
